Volunteering at Thoreau

Thoreau always welcomes volunteers! If you are assisting in any organization at Thoreau, please let us know your hours. Volunteering is a collaborative effort, and it can be difficult to keep track of the hours. To help parents in this effort, we will have a volunteer log at check-out, located in the front foyer at the student bookstore. Upon arriving at Thoreau and receiving your visitor pass, please log your estimated time for volunteering. If for some reason the bookstore is closed, a log is always kept in the office at the front desk. Reporting hours for volunteering is what makes Thoreau successful, and it helps our required accountability with the school district.

For those of you who volunteer outside the school itself, for example, chaperoning, leadership, PTSA events, football, cheer, POM, band, extended day, etc... please let us know your email address and once a month we can send a reminder to you, and you can email us your approximate hours to myself or Sally at one of the emails above. This way you do not have to make any special trip or fill-out a form to log your hours.

One final note, please check out the informational flyer under our volunteer tab for the "Three For Me" program. This program is asking parents for THREE hours of your time sometime throughout your child's educational year. Obviously, three hours supersedes the time most parents put into the school or extra-curricular activities outside the classroom. If you have not signed-up for the "Three For Me" program, please email myself or Sally and we will get you signed-up. Hopefully, by October 1, 2008 we will have a list of volunteer opportunities via the website for parents to sign-up for volunteer opportunities throughout the upcoming school year, which will be specific to your child and their grade.

Thank you again for making the commitment and supporting Thoreau.
